The UGV Rover PT PI4B ROS2 Kit combines a robust all-metal chassis, six-wheel mobility, four-wheel drive, Raspberry Pi computing, ESP32 motion control, computer vision, and ROS 2 development into one highly expandable robotic platform.

Designed for makers, robotics enthusiasts, students, educators, researchers, and developers, the UGV Rover provides an accessible way to explore autonomous robots, mapping, navigation, AI vision, remote control, and secondary development.

The dual-controller architecture separates high-level AI processing from real-time motion control. The Raspberry Pi 4B or Raspberry Pi 5 handles demanding tasks such as AI vision, strategy planning, and ROS 2 applications, while the ESP32 sub-controller manages motion control and sensor data processing for responsive operation.

Raspberry Pi 4B / Raspberry Pi 5 Computing

The platform supports Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB and Raspberry Pi 5 4GB, providing the computing power needed for more advanced robotics applications. Raspberry Pi OS with ROS 2 Docker support helps combine system compatibility with advanced decision-making and AI functions.

ROS 2 Development and Open-Source Resources

Built around ROS 2 Humble LTS, the UGV Rover provides an open development environment for robotics experimentation. Available resources include robot description files, URDF models, sensor-processing nodes, kinematic control algorithms, remote-control nodes, and other demonstrations for secondary development.

360° Pan-Tilt Vision System

The PT version features a 2-DOF pan-tilt mechanism powered by high-torque ST3215 bus servos. Combined with the 5MP 160° wide-angle camera, the system provides a flexible platform for computer vision, tracking, recognition, and interactive robotics projects.

Mapping, Navigation, and Simulation

The UGV Rover supports multiple ROS 2 mapping approaches, including GMapping 2D mapping, Cartographer 2D mapping, and RTAB-Map 3D mapping. Gazebo simulation resources can also help developers test robot behaviors and algorithms before deploying them to the physical platform.

AI Computer Vision

Using technologies such as OpenCV and MediaPipe, the robot can be developed for color recognition, automatic targeting, gesture recognition, face recognition, attitude detection, LED control, and other real-time multimedia applications.

A 40-pin GPIO expansion header, mounting rails, modular sensor architecture, and expandable software stack make the UGV Rover suitable for customized robotics projects. Optional 4G/5G connectivity can also be explored for applications where traditional Wi-Fi connectivity is unavailable.

6-Wheel 4WD Mobility

The six-wheel chassis provides a larger ground-contact area and a stable robotic platform, while four-wheel drive delivers additional traction for complex terrain and obstacles. With a default maximum speed of up to 1.3 m/s and an in-situ turning radius of 0 m, the robot is designed for highly maneuverable operation.
